In this discussion our panel of three covers the definition of barefoot running (It’s not what you think), barefoot running footwear, best practices, and some of the differences in form between barefoot running and running in traditional shoes.
Our panel:
- Pesach – Long time barefoot runner who has found it to be the best feeling way to run. From Pesach – ” All of my injuries have actually come from things other than running”. He’s been at it for decades no matter the weather.
- Alex – The founder and owner of Prehab. A physical therapist, long time runner, and triathlete. An expert on gait analysis no matter the footwear.
- Zach – An athletic trainer, crossfit coach, and strength & conditioning coach at Prehab who switched to barefoot shoes 3 years ago and has seen huge positive changes since the switch.
Pesach shares his story from how he got into it until now after having a gait analysis. Many typical questions about this topic will be answered and a pathway for anyone interested in the switch will be provided. The moral of the story is that spending time barefoot is good. Feet like to be allowed to function as they were made. However, we must always consider what we are asking them to do and if it is just too much too soon.
