Scholarship Spotlight: Marc’s Journey to Sub-5 Minutes in the 1600m

Marc Competing

At Prehab, we’re committed to supporting the next generation of athletes. Through our Athlete Scholarship Program, we recognize runners who demonstrate dedication, perseverance, and a passion for their sport.

This spotlight features Marc, a sophomore at Lehman College and one of the fastest runners on the Lehman College team. Competing in the 800 meters, 1500/1600 meters, and the 4×400 relay requires a unique blend of speed, endurance, and versatility. Through his work with the Prehab team, Marc has continued to build the strength and stability needed to improve his performance and support his long-term development.

Kaitlyn’s Middle-Distance Running Journey

Since beginning his collegiate running career, Marc has quickly established himself as one of the fastest runners on the Lehman College team. His ability to compete across multiple events highlights both his speed and endurance. Most recently, he reached an exciting milestone by breaking the five-minute barrier in the 1600 meters with a personal best of 4:52. As he continues to compete, Marc is focused on building on that success and reaching even faster times.

Strength Training & Injury Prevention with Prehab

When Marc first came to Prehab, he was dealing with shin splints and movement limitations that affected his running mechanics. Limited hip strength caused his knees to collapse inward while running, and he wasn’t using his posterior chain effectively, reducing both his stability and running efficiency.

Since starting Prehab, Marc has focused on building hip and posterior chain strength while improving his overall stability. Through targeted strength training and running drills, he has developed more efficient movement patterns and a stronger foundation for running. As he continues training, the focus remains on building strength, staying healthy, and continuing to improve his performance.

Marc’s Experience with Prehab Training

“Since I started working with the Prehab team, one of the biggest differences I’ve noticed has been my hip mobility. My hips used to be really tight, and once that was pointed out, I started incorporating hip mobility exercises into my routine. Slowly but surely, I’ve been feeling the difference.

What I enjoy most about competing is how strategic racing can be. The way you start can shape the rest of the race, and I always look for the right moment to make a move that could help me finish strong. Things don’t always go as planned, but that’s part of what makes racing exciting. What keeps me motivated is wanting to see what I’m truly capable of. I’ve made a lot of progress in a short amount of time, and I often think, ‘If only I had started earlier, imagine how far I’d be by now.’ The people around me believe I’m capable of even more, and that pushes me to keep going because I don’t feel like I’ve reached my ceiling yet.

Winning the Prehab High School Runner Scholarship is a blessing and an opportunity to continue growing as an athlete. It has reinforced my goal of becoming a faster runner while making sure I never neglect recovery along the way.”

What’s Next: Long-Term Athlete Development & Future Milestones

Marc’s journey is a great example of what consistent training, smart recovery, and a strong foundation can accomplish. As he continues to build strength and gain experience, we’re excited to watch him keep lowering his times and reaching new milestones throughout his collegiate running career. We’re proud to be part of his journey and look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.
