Scholarship Spotlight: Kaitlyn’s 800m Running & Strength Journey

At Prehab, we’re committed to supporting the next generation of athletes. Through our Athlete Scholarship Program, we recognize runners who demonstrate dedication, perseverance, and a passion for their sport.

This spotlight features Kaitlyn, a 16-year-old middle distance runner from the Bronx who specializes in the 800 meters. Competing in the 800 requires a unique blend of speed, endurance, and mental toughness. Through her work with the Prehab team, Kaitlyn has continued building the strength, stability, and movement efficiency needed to support her growth as a runner.

Kaitlyn’s Middle-Distance Running Journey

Although Kaitlyn has only been competing for two years, she has quickly developed a passion for middle distance running. Her commitment to consistent training and willingness to learn have fueled steady improvement each season. As she continues to gain experience, she’s focused on building confidence, refining her race strategy, and chasing new personal bests in the 800 meters.

Strength Training & Injury Prevention with Prehab

Since joining Prehab, Kaitlyn has focused on building hip strength, improving posterior chain activation, and increasing overall stability to support more efficient running. Along with targeted strength training, she has incorporated running drills designed to improve her mechanics, coordination, and leg speed.

That work has translated beyond performance. By strengthening key muscle groups, particularly around her knees and hips, Kaitlyn has experienced fewer injuries and less pain, allowing her to train more consistently. With a stronger foundation in place, she continues to build toward improved performance while developing the durability needed for long-term success.

Kaitlyn’s Experience with Prehab Training

“One of the biggest differences since working with Prehab has been staying healthy. I used to be injured most of the time, but I learned that a lack of strength training was a big reason why. Since I started strengthening my muscles—especially around my knees—I’ve had much less pain and far fewer injuries.

During the last 200 meters of the 800, I always tell myself to really push it and sprint to the finish. Even if I don’t set a personal best, I know I gave it everything I had.

Winning the Prehab High School Scholarship has shown me there’s so much to learn about my body—from recovery and mobility to strength training and running form. This opportunity is helping me understand what works best for me so I can continue improving and reach my goals.”

Looking Ahead

Kaitlyn’s commitment to continuous improvement, both on and off the track, has helped build a strong foundation for future success. Her dedication to learning about injury prevention, strength training, and performance reflects the mindset we look for in our Athlete Scholarship recipients. We’re proud to support her through the Prehab Athlete Scholarship Program and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
